I just found out that next year an Ohio hatchery will attempt to hatch blue catfish for stocking. The proposed stocking is for Dillon Lake a Zanesville and was decided from shad surveys showing huge population of shad at Dillon.
I will watch developements and report any other news I find out. |

| not to far for robby to travel lol diiion lake covers 1325 acres with a shorelengh of 14 mi. max depthis 24 ft with an average depth of 7 ft. hope that helps you. |

Ohio has never attempted blue cat incubation so they must depend on info from other states for their program.
As I deliberated on this subject, I had an interesting thought.
Ohio does recieve striped bass fry from Virginia. Va also stocked the James and Rappahannock rivers with blue cats.
It is my gut feeling that Ohio will start with limitted production of blue cats and study their production and effects for several years before getting heavily involved in blue cat production.
But if pressure is heavy to study blue cat viability they can always get fingerlings from other states. |
