I have never seen a flathead in the way you described but I have seen many a carp sucking film on top and also bowfin(mudfish) coming up to gulp air. |

I have enjoyed some Abu Garcia 6500's but I mostly use Penn 320 gti and gt2 reels for flathead fishing. Good reels that hold heavy line. |
