I looking into buying a few of these Shimano Charter Special baitcaster reels. I wanted to know what kind of line you use on them Robby? _________________ On a real quiet night, You can hear the catfish laughing at me! |

We use braided dacron line (36#) but it is specifically for our type of flathead fishing in lakes. The line has lots of drawbacks and I generally suggest other people use high quality mono and keep it fresh.
One other thing
If you buy lever drag reels, remember you must set the drag adjustment with the lever disengaged. Tightening the drag knob with the lever engaged will bend the lever and ruin the drag engagement till the lever is replaced.
I failed to explain this to a friend who got excited and wanted to stop losing line by adjusting the drag while fighting a fish. We landed the fish but that reel was out of comission until I replaced the lever bar.
If you do not regularly fish heavy current you can get the Shimano TR reels for between half and 2/3 the cost of the Charter Specials. They are identical except for the drag systems. _________________ Catchabiggun,

I just got another TRLD 200 and mounted it on a Catmaxx rod.
The black reel on the black and silver rod looks pretty.
I noticed the new Catmaxx has a lighter action in the tip and the guides do not have the ceramic inserts that had a nasty habit of popping out.
The real important tests will begin soon. Then I will evaluate if the rod is stiff enough for long range hooksets and see if the guides hold up to braided line. _________________ Catchabiggun,

Loaded some fresh dacron on the Charter Special.
Now all i need is a sinker, hook, warm weather and
a willing flathead to test the rig out. _________________ Catchabiggun,

Robby,
Sounds like you got it all figured out. Not to long now.

Like I said the Charter Special looks good on the black and silver Catmaxx.
I wonder if BPS are Raiders fans. Seems to be the color on the rods _________________ Catchabiggun,

I've got a couple of TLD-15s (no levelwind) for sale - $50 each takes 'em.
Levelwinds are overrated... |
