I have been puzzling over a declining flathead catch for 3 years.
I haven't observed any natural or man made causes but thought
tonight that maybe I have looking at the wrong end of the problem.
I feel fairly certain the glut of shad causes the flathead to hunt
a lot less than they had previously. But I was thinking the expansion
of the shad population was due to low winterkill.
Shad spawn on hard surfaces. I was thinking tonight that addition of
rip rap throughout the lake means more hard surfaces which
expand the areas the shad can spawn.
Does anyone else believe this may be cause for a shad population increase? _________________ Catchabiggun,

I dont think so, we seen shad spawn at nite along sandy shorelines, so shad are always going to have plenty of area to spawn, I think Ur first comment is the answer and this year I think will be the worst. The other day we were vertical jiging vibees we usualy hook at least a couple dead shad every hour or two from the bottom that day we didn't hook any! _________________ Brock |

Ducky,
It seems this problem plagues bassmasters more than us
And since bass are stupid the countermeasures are more simple for bassmasters. _________________ Catchabiggun,
