|

The past few days I have been reviewing my fishing logs.
I have been going back to input weather data. I only have 2 months complete so far because my logs go back to 1997. I am not sure what I might find or how I might put it to use
Right now I fish every time I get a chance but perhaps after I retire I may want to pick and choose my fishing times.
I graphed my catch rates for several months and saw no relevent indicators for preference for moon phases.
Daily graphs indicate Thursday to be most productive. I read that as one of the lowest boat traffic days of the week.
I would like to hear of other peoples results they gathered from personal fishing logs. Also if you have ideas of data that can or should be checked let me know.
I seem to recall good catches before storms that resulted from hurricanes and plan on checking those dates in the future.
More data should equal better conclusions from data. _________________ Catchabiggun,

Started keeping one in 2005. I went a total of 50 times in 2005.
Each time I went I recorded:
Date Location
Times
Moon phase
Water Conditions
Water Temp.
Weather
Results ie; fish caught, species, bait and times. AND...... if we struck out or had bites or runs. Recorded Fish Weights of ones caught. |

One of the things that I believe would be very helpfull is the barometric pressure. I know I use this to determind the size bait I use. Not always is bigger baits better.

kinda sorta, I don't keep a detailed log but have a calendar that I use from year to year. Doesn't matter that the days are a little off. I just write on it when I have a decent day or night. Over several years, it has proved helpful mostly in advanced planning of trips. |

I've kept one for the last couple years. A couple interesting things, but I haven't found anything to convince me to NOT fish when I can. |

I also keep a log. I have been keeping an extensive one since 2000. Like RiverCat, I write down about everything even holes I fish, river level, etc. Haven't made any "best fishing times". It seems flatheads are going to bite when they want to. I just try to be on the water as many times as possible. _________________ -Bob

I usually record species caught,bait used,lake or river, time,date,H20 temp,moon phase & weather conditions.
And I have found about mid july with a new moon seems to have been most productive for me for flatheads.
Good fishing,

I think you hit on a major part of the log. Recording information on nights we strike out may help eliminate conditions that turn fish off.
We all have trips with no fish and I will probably go fishing when others tell me I can't catch fish. But by recording conditions when I don't catch fish may lead me to find triggers that cause flathead to feed. _________________ Catchabiggun,

I compare lots of data from my logs to see if there is any correlation to flathead activity.
Thursday came out to be the most productive day of the week. It may be a coincidence or just the lakes settle down from boat traffic. The catch rates on Thursdays is only 7% better when compared equally to other days of the week. It could be that I fish more weekends that are not prime flathead season.
To catch flathead I have to put in lots of hours fishing. Over 20 years of trophy fishing and I haven't figured them out yet. _________________ Catchabiggun,
