What is better for catfishing?

Muddy water or clear water.

Or does water clarity not matter at all?

I have done good in both. I use larger baits in muddy water that put off more vibrations in the water. I believe that a flathead is just as active in muddy water as in clear. I think a flathead uses muddy water just like in rain to there advantage gives them an edge in hunting. What is your beliefs on this Robby?

I'm not sure.

I have gone into bays and seen the line of muddy water moving
in from the back and asked Chad. Sometimes we flip a coin.

I can't tell if the flathead care or not because I basically believe
they never see the baitfish. The mature fish get close enough
to strike and flare their gills. They decide once they catch the
baitfish if it might be harmful or poisonous and blow back out
bad stuff.

Since I never use things they don't eat I haven't had them drop
a bait. I've had other fish reject baits that weren't what they
expected them to be though.

I have never checked to see if there was a temperature
difference between the muddy and clear water either. This
might influence my decision if there was a difference in the temp.

Years ago I use to fish Wills Creek alot down by the Plainfield area. In the spring when the water level was flowing and muddier than hell. I used to catch flatheads all the time in that old muddy water. I used big gills and big suckers. Maybe by using bigger baits that was key for muddier water. I dont know.
